About Suzanne Purewal

Suzanne grew up in Webster, NY. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree, she went on to earn a Master of Science degree from Kettering University. Suzanne worked for General Motors and Delphi for a combined twenty-two years.

Aside from her annual Christmas poems and a few other whimsical pieces over the past two decades, Suzanne did not write very much. However, she did entertain coworkers with descriptive stories. They encouraged her to write a book. She did not seriously consider it, until she was diagnosed with cancer. During her battle against the disease, she started writing again.

In her free time, Suzanne enjoys hiking, singing, and playing the guitar and piano. She has resided in Noblesville, IN for the past eighteen years.

Suzanne is a member of The International Women’s Writing Guild, The Writers’ Center of Indiana, The Noble Writers’ Group, Friends of the Hamilton East Public Library, and Friends of the Hamilton North Public Library.

Suzanne’s first romance novel, Embracing Destiny, was released in November 2010. Although she wrote it as a stand-alone novel, the feedback from readers compelled her to write a sequel. Look for Challenging Destiny to be released soon.
In the powerful romance novel, Embracing Destiny, the reader follows Sara Taylor—a woman standing at a crossroad. Disillusioned with her love life and lackluster career, she searches for meaning in her life. A chance encounter provides a fresh perspective and alters her outlook. Change is on the horizon. Joe Lazaro’s burning desire for Sara has never been stronger. Yearning to make his own life complete, he intends to reconnect with his soulmate. However, Joe is not the only man vying for Sara’s affections.

As Sara attempts to explore her options, an unexpected event sets her on a journey. Outside forces intervene, and danger lurks in every shadow.

The support of their loved ones is ever present. Although, it is only through their trials and tribulations that Sara and Joe realize what is truly important.

The title of your book is Embracing Destiny. What is your definition of embracing your destiny? 
To embrace your destiny, you have to know who you are as a person and accept it.

Can you give me five words to describe your literary journey?
 Exciting. Enlightening. Fulfilling. Arduous. Liberating.

What are three things a writer should do? 
Write what you want to write, not what someone tells you to write. Join a writing group to get unbiased feedback from peers. Make sure you hire an editor to edit your manuscript.

 What are three things a writer should not do?
Never give up. Don't force yourself to write if you don't feel like writing. Don't underestimate the need of a good editor.

What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on writing a sequel to Embracing Destiny. It's called Challenging Destiny. I originally intended for Embracing Destiny to be a stand-alone novel. However, the feedback from readers has compelled me to write a sequel. I had been writing a paranormal novel at the time that I decided to start the sequel. I do plan to return to it once the sequel is complete.

Well, I must do my WWW's which are what have you just finished reading? What are you currently reading? And what do you plan to read next?
I just finished reading Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Currently reading Darby Rae's Merciful Law. Planning to read Stephen King's Full Dark, No Stars.

How are you and Sara, the main character in Embracing Destiny, alike?
Sara and her best friend, Laura, both look like me. We worked in engineering-related fields. And I too had a psychic reading that changed the course of my life.

How are you different from Sara, the main character in Embracing Destiny?

I would not have made the same decisions Sara made concerning her love life. And truth be told, I am more like Laura's character.

What's the best advice you've been given? 
Be true to yourself and do what makes you happy.

Tell us something that readers may not already know about Embracing Destiny?
My favorite character is not the main character, Sara Taylor, it's Joe Lazaro's mother, Rose. She was the easiest character to write. She's an amalgamation of several women in my life.

Interview with Bestselling Author Rosalyn McMillan

It's day two of the sisterhood spotlight. We have bestselling author Rosalyn McMillan. Most memorable moment of her at the Sisterhood Showcase was her passionate response about having a career and being a mother at the same time. How she is fortunate she was able to work, have a career and still be a good mom. She didn't hesitate when I asked to take a picture with her. And she had a relaxed, friendly and easy demeanor.


Rosalyn McMillan is the author of six novels, Knowing, One Better, Blue Collar Blues, The Flip Side of Sin, This Side of Eternity and Midnight Pawn. Her latest book, We Ain’t the Brontës, is a fast read about sibling rivalry. Both protagonist and antagonist are published authors. One is successful and the other one isn’t.  Jealousy and envy create eons of tension between the two sisters. It has action, drama, passion, humor and cutting dialogue. The Brontës will have the reader wondering what is fact and what is fiction.

In We Ain't the Brontes, Charity Evans and Lynzee Lavender haven’t always had the best relationship—for the most part thanks to them being writers. But while Lynzee is the wealthy, successful New York Times bestselling author of science fiction books, Charity is just squeaking by. Why is success passing her by? Interview

How did you began your writing career?

I began my writing career in 1992.  I wanted to tell my story about my medical disorder, alopecia.  There hadn't been any fiction books written about it. 

You have been on hiatus from the book world for ten years, what took you so long to come back?

I was blacklisted in the publishing industry and couldn't get a contract. I didn't stop writing, though. I have eight completed novels that I hope to publish one day.

What do you think about the current ebook trends? Have you embraced it and are you find it more difficult sell books among the masses of ebooks?

I like the idea. I published an ebook this year entitled "Midnight Pawn."  It's a psychological thriller about a female serial killer.  I think marketing and selling ebooks isn't as easy as it sounds.

 

I'm sure you get asked this often, but for my readers interest, can you tell us if your current novel, "We Ain't The Brontes" is based on any personal experiences between you and your sister Terry McMillan?

No, it's not. I think it would be refreshing to write a book about two Black female authors who struggle in their careers, and are oftentimes not very friendly towards each other.

Do you think you and Terry will ever collaborate on any work?

Not a work of fiction.  Our styles are too different. However, Terry and our two other sisters hope to publish a cookbook in the near future. I already have my recipes ready.

How is it different being a seasoned writer as opposed to being a newly published author?

Being seasoned, you know the tricks of the trade and know how important it is to know about the business of publishing and the politics that go along with it. Newly published authors have very high expectations.  They have got a lot to learn.

I asked this question during the panel/forum discussion at the Sisterhood Showcase, can you tell us your thoughts about the segregation of African American books in brick and mortar stores?


I like the idea.  You can find us easily and I'm not ashamed to be Black.  I'm very proud of my heritage.  My only hope is that I'll write quality fiction so that I feel worthy of being represented in the brick and mortar stores.

What are you currently working on? And where do you draw your inspiration from?

I'm currently working on the sequel to "Midnight Pawn." I get my inspiration from the newspaper, my friends, and family members. I'm never short on ideas. 


What would you like readers to know about you that they probably don't know?

That I've been designing and sewing clothes since I was sixteen years old. I can make men's suits and sew draperiers. I'm making draperies for my family room and dining room this fall.

Knowing me as a writer and author is like cracking an egg’s shell in the air and wondering how far the splatter will spread. Wait, that’s kind of like knowing me as a person. I’m like all over the board and always working on three to five projects at a time. I have no favorite spots to work and my view tends to be pointed at the keyboard. When an idea comes into my head I just flow with it. I haven’t been able to conform my writing to any specific pattern. I am more than often working on one story and the characters from another will just be dying to get my attention and I have to go into their world.

Interview Questions

Can you briefly tell us about your literary work?

Ey Wade: I write in all genres except paranormal. At the moment I have several fiction novels that are currently released. Along with a non-fiction book, as well as three children picture books.

Sounds like you are very busy, having written seven books. Where did the inspiration for your work come from?

Ey Wade: Most of the premise from my works are derived from factors in real life. My children, things I have heard, seen on television or have garnered from my profession as a childcare provider or just from general day to day living. None of the characters in my novels are real.

I could tell your books were taken from some of the aspects of your life experiences. So what would you like readers to get out of reading your work and how they can apply it to their lives?

Ey Wade: I would like the reader to get the urge to pay more attention to the people and activities around them. Though my stories can be entertaining they also have messages I hope the characters bring to light.

What is your writing process like?

Ey Wade: At the moment I am working on the second part of the series LDA, which is titled The Carjacker, the second in the series of Yes, Sam Takes Care of Me On the Corner of Easy Street & Bluebonnet Lane, and another novel titled DNA. And that’s not mentioning the other picture books or the three romances I am editing right now. Always thinking, always writing.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Ey Wade: Just write. That’s it. Everyone has a story to tell, tell it after editing.
