I can admit that I am not fond of certain genres of books, although I do try and add them to my repertoire of reading as often as possible. Novels that I am currently adding to this category are science fiction, suspense and thrillers. I recently read science novel, Kindred by Octavia Butler and wrote a book review. I must admit, I loved it. So next up on the agenda is to read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book was recommend to me by a friend Mr. Hank Henley, so I am going to hold him accountable if I don't like it (just kidding Hank). But seriously, I will. But I also heard great things about the book from other readers as well. So tonight will be the beginning of another adventure. I hope you stay tuned to see what kind of review I give it and if I give Hank the side-eye, for recommending it. :-)
In the meantime, tell me what is your favorite genre? Mainstream, science fiction, thrillers, suspense, YA, chick-lit, romance, historical, christian, urban, etc?

I've gotta go with Suspense. I am a HUGE fan of Janet Evanovich (The numbers series) and Sue Grafton (The Alphabet series). I appreciate the humor, intelligence, strength and vulnerabilities they both instill in their lead female characters.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting. I like strong female leads as well. And I am a fan of Janet Evanovich too. I'll have to check out The Alphabet Series. Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI've always been a huge fan of fantasy and science fiction. It's a way for me to escape.
ReplyDeleteMr. Reem I am finding that true as well. So far, Hunger Games is really good. With science fiction you get to engage in the use of your imagination, nothing is out of the realm of possibility.
ReplyDeleteExactly the reason why I love it. Later on this year, I'm going to start writing my 1st science-fiction/horror novel.
ReplyDeleteThat's great. I can't wait to read it Reem. I think science fiction may be one of my favorite new genres. Your blog is very interesting as well. Tell us the name of it.
ReplyDeleteI started out reading only fiction, but now I prefer non-fiction. I especially like spiritual, philosophical authors--Wayne Dyer is my favorite. I recently broke with my tradition. Rosalyn McMillan (Terry McMillan's sister) bought my book, "Line of Serenity," and I bought hers, "We Ain't the Brontes." I don't know how to classify it, but it was a captivating read!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and for your comment. I am reading three books right now but most of my attention is on A Pointed Death by Kath Russell. I really do enjoy a good mystery and so far this is one. The other two books are 21st Century Great Global Depression by Orest Andrew Harrison (I thought I might learn some valuable lessons here) and Hot Leaders, Cool Facilitators by Bart R. Wendell PhD. (if you have ever had to run a meeting, as I have, this book is an excellent source).
ReplyDelete@LINEOFSERENITY... I'm going to try and read more non-fiction. I have to admit I don't do it very often. I have heard of Wayne Dyer...I will have to check him out as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shirley...Those sound like awesome reads. I'm just now getting into mystery, thrillers and science fiction. Trying to get out of my comfort zone of mainstream fiction. I've forgotten how much I enjoy those genres and it is refreshing.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is wonderful and enjoyable as well. Thank you.
Looking forward to your Hunger Games review.
