He answers these questions by sharing his personal story of growing from rags to riches. He even offers insight to single mothers about the things they are doing on a daily basis that may have a lasting effect on your children. Tyrese unselfishly exposed his self in order to give insight into the mind of a poverty stricken child who developed into a wealthy man.
Many of the readers of this book will read it just to appease their own curiosity about this known sex symbol. Be ready to be pleasantly surprised by this mans wisdom, though gritty at times, but true wisdom. It was refreshing to hear honest, jagged pill answers from a man on the topics women inquire about daily. Romantic relationships are not all that he tackles in this book. He also asks a very pointed question of “Who are your five people?” The people closest to you represent what you think of yourself. That chapter spoke volumes and will make anyone take a close look at your environment. Is your environment conducive for life and growth, or is it dead and not producing fruit?
This book starts off very strong and depending on the issues you are dealing with in your own personal life, it will offer great advice. Each and every reader can take away a lesson on the different trials and tribulations we all go through, even if they are caused by our own inability to get out of our own way. Great work for a first time novel. It is written in a form simple enough to be given to a young teen that might be faced with the same hardships. Anyone could read the book and gain knowledge from it.

ReplyDeleteI have a hard time giving credibility to celebrities who give real life advice. Mostly because I do not feel that their lives are based in 'real life'. On that note, I'm wondering what does Tyrese attribute his wisdom and knowledge to? Does he acknowledge a mentor or some kind of training in sociology? Is the feel of the book one of a big brother giving advice or is it more substantial than that?

ReplyDeleteI haven't heard about this man and his book but I enjoy non-fiction and biographies from time to time. A great review with some interesting commentary - thanks Lena and Katina! You two did a splendid job indeed! I just wonder whether Mr Gibson had a ghost writer to help him...

Wow!! Great feedback. I will try to answer all of your questions. @ Loletha. Tyrese named four people as his mentors. They were Angie, Gayle Atkins, Reggie and Will Smith. He contributes the great advice he recieved from these people to be life saving. He even gives Will Smith credit for changing the negative superstar attitude he had developed. The story about their interaction was very insightful. The book does not speak of any formal training or education from Tyrese. The book does not give reference to a ghost writer. @anachronist. I was pleasently surprised by the level of knowledge he displayed in this book. I will admit some of it hit too close to home for me...but sometimes you need a reality check, and that is what this book provided. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the comments! Happy Reading!

I think it's great that you chose this book to inform us about, from what it sounds, we would really miss out on a gem if we judge this book by its (beautiful, chocolate) cover ::wink::
